Question: How do cadet drug policies change now that cannabis is legal?

Answer: For cadets in SK and other provinces where smoking age is 19+, it doesn't really change. Cadets are not allowed to smoke/consume cannabis, or participate in training while impaired. For adult staff, the Department of National Defence has updated its policies on cannabis use, and the National Cadets and Junior Rangers Support Group is expected to publish further details about how this applies to cadet instructors specifically.

In the short term, cadets who are found to be impaired will be treated the same as those who consume alcohol. For more information see CATO 13-22 (Smoking policy) and 13-23 (Alcohol policy).
